has it gone to far?

Picking out a good band name can be a big deal. When you choose to go with a pun based on the title of the autobio/manifesto of probably one of the most reviled men in recent history, especially when the meaning of the pun is ambiguous, then you are going to have to face the consequences of that decision. Not everyone is going to take the time to read the backstory behind the name. Most are going to see it on a flyer. Seeing as how there are bands that do glorify Hitler, it's not a far leap to draw the same conclusion.

I'm not losing sleep over it. Just think it's a very poor choice that will severely hinder the band in a market that's not easy to begin with.

if people aren't intelligent enough to know that we aren't racist, it's just a "risky" band name, then they probably aren't intelligent enough to know that there is even a book called mein skampf. in our area we haven't received any negative feedback, i'm not trying to sound cocky but i'm just trying to show how others have been reacting. i don't even think it's liable to get angry at a band called the "skazis". it's mockery, not support

I don't think anyone on this board has flatout said you guys are a bunch of racists.

I think you guys are dumb for taking such a sensitive issue, which soon enough will have a century's worth of negative connotation attached to it, and turning it into a joke.

Here's an example:

If you saw a band called "Skafrican Slavery" playing a show, what would your first reaction be to that? That's an issue equally as sensitive as you guys turning Mein Skampf into a lame pun. It's fucking stupid, plain and simple.

And to be honest, I completely realize that no regrets isn't the most clever name in the world, in fact it is pretty damn stupid. But at least I can say i've never had a single person in the world question me as to what my intentions are in regard to what my band stands for.

Live and let learn boys. You're obviously getting the attention you were looking for when you chose the name

it's not like our band name is "1940s Skalocaust"..its a fucking literary document. also two german words pieced together...that mean "MY STRUGGLE" not "KILL JEWS". i'm also not accusing you guys of calling us racist, i'm talking about others' apparent reactions. and to the guy who wants us beat up by "SHARP"s. by the way, i don't remember the last time i saw a skinhead walking around town looking for some nazi scum to kick the shit out of. we're not putting light on the near destruction of an entire race.

Do you really think I want you beat up? I mean really? Did you take what I posted seriously? You probably aren't 11, but you are certainly young, no doubt.

People on this board know each other, we don't know you, and we don't care what you think of us.
We can joke all we want about your band. We're older than you, we're wiser than you, our bands are better than yours.

Putting yourself out there in the public eye, will draw criticism, no matter what your name, age, or level of ability.

Just don't drag Slayer into this....

Here's some advice:
1. Get a better name.
2. Take the awful sound clips on your page down and make better ones.
3. If you "vanity google" yourself, realize that you might get flamed on a board with which you aren't familiar.

it was a generality that i based off of other boards that i've been in. i may get "FLAMED" for this, but metal fans seem to be more critical of bands and music. we had fun making those songs and were in a hurry to release them for certain reasons. and i don't know what standards you guys have, but i can only assume that you think if the riff doesnt change every measure or if something gets repeated, then it sucks. thats my take on the new streetlight album. all i listen to is trad ska and the music on the myspace is the result of that. no regrets and mein skampf are totally different styles in my opinion.

also, keep in mind that the most pathetic but most commonly used attack on boards is about age. the older the better, right? becasue when you were my age, you were better than me...right?

i'm okay with you guys bringing up your reaction to the band name but i don't appreciate the slander on our music. it's something we worked on and were proud of and if you guys are in bands then you should know what i mean. we started 2 fucking months ago so sorry if we arent fucking no regrets

Ouch. My man's drinking the haterade. Haha, like it was said before, I don't actually want to beat you up. We just all agree that it's a bad choice for a band name. Generally Mein Kampf is never associated with anything other than the Holocaust, so you can only expect to raise some eyebrows with a band name like that. Generalizations like that aren't always fair but it's how people are and you're gonna face the repercussions for it.

As far as age goes, I doubt you're any younger than me really, but the quality of your recordings take away from the tightness that your band could have at a live show. If you want us to take your music seriously, post better sounding music. No one here is dissing you because your riffs don't change every measure. If anything the diss is arising because of your name.

...and Slayer? I like Slayer and plenty of my friends do and none of us seem to be any more critical of music than others. That's kind of a bogus stereotype right there.

i know them personally and they are all funny kids and they are not gonna be on the news or anything

let them play what they want and let there name be whatever not like there gonna be as big as mustard plug and they also have another band more serious then this
